"HHS, Morehouse in $40M Initiative to Address Coronavirus, Minority Health Disparities"

The U.S. Health and Human Services Department (HHS) recently announced a $40 million, three-year partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine to battle the COVID-19 outbreak in vulnerable communities, part of an effort to create a “strategic network” targeting underserved populations. With the coronavirus pandemic having a disproportionate impact on communities of color, public officials are devoting far more attention to underlying disparities that result in uneven health outcomes. Daniel Dawes, director of Morehouse’s Satcher Health Leadership Institute, told Yahoo Finance that the goal was to "establish a national COVID-19 resiliency network (NCRN)” that shines a light on the communities that have been ignored."

"A Chance in the World: Breaking the Cycle in Health Disparities"

After years of being trapped in the foster care system, Steve Pemberton, a biracial orphan who was told he didn't have a chance in the world, went on a search for his biological family. He discovered gaps in a healthcare system that greatly impacted his mother's and his father's life. He found that his paternal grandmother had died of heart disease at just 40 years old, leading to the immediate disintegration of the family, including leaving Pemberton's father as an orphan. In another part of the country, a similar narrative was unfolding for his mother. Steve understands firsthand how your zip code can influence your access to healthcare and impact lives and communities. Although the notion of health inequities are not new, COVID-19 is shining a light on the flaws of our health system. Steve shares his personal story to help elevate the conversation around health disparities and points us towards solutions so that everyone might have a "Chance in The World."

Hear What Other Clients Are Saying About Our Speakers!

"We had our big event with Samantha Harris and I want to thank you so much for singing her praises so well. First and foremost, she is a really remarkable individual. She is intelligent, relatable and so down to earth. Everyone loved her, from the CEO to the community participants who attended the event. Her keynote was so well done and her message was right on point, echoing our organizational philosophies about knowing your own body, advocating for yourself and empowering yourself to be the best version. She was so patient and interactive with each of the participants in the Meet and Greet and book signing and did a wonderful job on both on-air television appearances (not surprising!)."

"Kim Campbell drew a standing ovation from our audience of neurologists and neuroscientists for her candid and moving story of caregiving for Glen Campbell in his final years. She was responsive to media requests, and is an informed, articulate and gracious spokesperson for the plight of families affected by Alzheimer’s. Her presence underscored the importance of our members’ research, and we are honored to have hosted her."
