HEALTHCAST: VOLUME 20

Hello Cara,

Every 65 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s disease. At current rates, experts believe the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s will quadruple to as many as 16 million by the year 2050. Every September, Alzheimer’s organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness for - and challenging the stigma that surrounds - Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Determined to continue her late husband’s Glen Campbell’s quest to educate people about Alzheimer’s disease, Kim and Ashley Campbell have made it their personal mission to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their caregivers. Watch their free webinar below. Also, check out the new Healthy Brain initiative that former U.S. Surgeon General and former CDC director Dr. David Satcher is working on with Us Against Alzheimer’s. With remote learning in full gear, take a look at Nelson Dellis’ new book that helps kids improve their memory.

I hope you are well and I look forward to connecting soon,
Brenda

Like all of us navigating the new normal with COVID-19, they had no mental preparation and quickly had to adapt to daunting challenges.

"The New Brain Health Center Focused on Racial Disparities"

By 2030, half of all Americans living with Alzheimer’s will be Black or Latino. The UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Brain Health Equity Center, in collaboration with the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, the National Black Nurses Association and Alzheimer’s Los Angeles is now working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on a Healthy Brain Initiative. Former U.S. Surgeon General and former CDC director Dr. Satcher, who serves on the boards of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s and its new center knows only too well, the work that needs to be done, having been a caregiver to his late wife Nola who struggled with Alzheimer's.  “We can make progress against deeply entrenched health disparities if we are purposeful and vigilant in our pursuit of equity.”
